A wildlife photographer recently captured the incredible moment a cub lovingly gives its mother the sweetest kiss. The mother-daughter duo shared a tender moment that lasted for a few seconds and the little one appeared to kiss the lioness on her nose.
Here are a few facts about lion cubs. A female lioness will move her cubs to a safe den once they are born. The cub gets picked up later on, by the scruff of its neck. The cub instinctively will relax its muscles and allow the mother to move it around. Normally, baby lions remain hidden for around one to two months before being introduced to the rest of the pride. When a lion cub is born, it initially weighs around 1.5 Kilograms and its eyes start to slowly open within three to eleven days. They gradually start weaning at ten weeks and start hunting at the age of two years. They are fully grown by the age of four years.
Recently, a photographer named, Julia Sundukova managed to capture an iconic shot of a lion cub standing on its hind legs just to give its mom a kiss on the nose. This amazing shot was captured at the Hwange Park in Zimbabwe, one of the biggest national parks in the continent of Africa. The outcome of this photo reflects the intimacy level of the mother and the cub.
"The lioness with the collar was the mother of the cub she played with. There were no males around, so it was interesting to observe how the cubs play and interact with the females." "This is one of the most fun and interesting lessons of nature to me," she stated further, even though the lions were a bit far from the road I was so happy to spend the whole golden hour with them until the sunset."
Julia had an amazing time watching the lion cub and its mother where she was able to capture a magnificent shot of the duo. "I think I was lucky to get the chance to meet lions especially with cubs in the perfect evening light. The female in the photo, probably one of the oldest in pride. The collar may confuse some people, but it only means that there are researchers who track and observe this pride." Image Credit & More Info; julia_sundukova/instagram | juliasundukova.com
